As Desert Mountain Health uses the “Therapeutic Community” model of treatment, it is crucial for each of our clients to engage with their peers and work through their struggles as a group. Recovery is not done alone, it is done with the support of sober friends, a 12-step sponsor, the recovery community and their loved ones. Our group therapy is designed to allow our clients to use each other for support and for each person to realize they are not battling this disease alone. By processing their emotions and experiences every day, it will empower each one of our clients to lean on each other for support and grow together in their recovery process. Our groups cover a wide variety of topics and techniques that can be used in sobriety.

At Desert Mountain Health our number one concern is the care of our clients and the success of everyone achieving long-term sobriety. Our model has been proven to work and every client who engages in the program has a high chance of success. We are here to make each and every client feel right at home so the recovery process is as comfortable as possible. Our group therapy is designed to be engaging, uplifting and supportive for each one of our clients. Staying Sober Workbook – By Terence T. Gorksy

Terence T. Gorski is an internationally recognized expert on substance abuse, mental health, violence, & crime. He is best known for his contributions to relapse prevention,    managing chemically dependent offenders, and developing community-based teams for managing the problems of alcohol, drugs, violence, and crime. He has extensive experience     working with employee assistance programs (EAP) and has special expertise in working with emergency professionals including fire, medical, and law enforcement.  He is a prolific author and has published numerous book stand articles.

At Desert Mountain Health we have incorporated his book, Staying Sober: A Guide for Relapse Prevention, into our overall treatment program. This text is provided to clients upon their arrival at Desert Mountain Health and our licensed therapists use this text as a structured way to explore relapse prevention and create a plan for preventing a relapse upon discharge from our facility.

Medical Education

Our schedule has regular groups scheduled for one of the members of our medical team to sit with clients and provide medical education on addiction, co-occuring disorders, medications and more. This will give clients the opportunity to expand their knowledge on all of the different components that come along with addiction and a sober life.
